MUTEK is a not-for-profit organisation that disseminates and develops digital creativity in sound, music, and audio-visual art. Founded in Montreal, Canada, in 2000, since its inception, MUTEK festival has distinguished itself as an international festival for original and avant-garde programming that intends to create a space for innovation in new electronic music and digital art. With ramifications in North America, South America, Asia and Europe, MUTEK is a point of convergence, drawing participants worldwide to profit from a context of active discovery.
Partnering with Zú, MUTEK Montreal invites the collective United Curators to lead the next iteration of their international multidisciplinary laboratory using artificial intelligence in the creation of audiovisual works. The MUTEK AI Art Lab takes place in Montreal, Canada, from March 1-10, 2020, and is open for artists, creators, curators, critics, researchers, engineers, and programmers to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and art jointly.
The AI Art Lab wishes to extend the specialised field of AI to artists and creatives who would like to interact more with this emerging technology and learn about its social and philosophical dimensions. The Montreal edition of the Lab draws from the connections and experiences gathered in St-Petersburg (Gamma_LAB AI, Russia, May 2019), and Tokyo (MUTEK.JP AI Music Lab, Japan, November 2019) and lectures and workshops introduced by Natalia Fuchs (Gamma Festival), Maurice Jones (MUTEK.JP), and Peter Kirn (Create Digital Music) will be held.
The deadline to apply to the MUTEK AI Art Lab is January 9, 2020, and the results will be announced on Monday, January 20, 2020.
