NEW NOW is an international online platform for exchanging ideas about and interpretations of reality and researching the present moment. NEW NOW is a forum for dialogue, generating new meanings, and rethinking our relationship in a changing world. The program responds to the most vivid ideological transformations and challenges of modernity and aid in creating our common future.

If the first discussion of the programme were a conversation between Federico Campagna, Reza Negarestani and Sarah Shin, moderated by Alexander Vileykis, this second instalment of the programme would see writer and theorist Franco “Bifo” Berardi and professor of philosophy Havi Carel sharing their thoughts tomorrow, October 14, at 8 p.m. UTC +3.

At Mental Health: The Third Unconscious, they will discuss the “new normal”: Where is the line between “normality” and abnormal psychological states: burnout, depression, suicidal behaviour, and various practices of excluding oneself from the community? How relevant is it to talk about the possibility of a psychological norm in 2021? What mutations are happening right now, in this time of social distancing?

Franco “Bifo” Berardi will present his overview of the mutation influencing the social Unconscious from the point of view of the era in which we live: viral pandemics combined with the catastrophic collapse of capitalism. And Havi Carel will accent experiences of existential angst and the unusual perception of oneself in the world that often accompany illness.

They both will find answers to questions such as how relevant it is to discuss the possibility of a psychological norm in 2021. And what changes are occurring in this time of social distancing?
