On February 24, 2022, IKLECTIK (London, UK), in collaboration with New Rituals —the event series founded by curator Estela Oliva that explores identity and spirituality in the post-digital age— presents ICE WIND EXHALE, an emotional state of mind.
For artists, the sound came into being as a means of recording the very movement of reality: factual, specific, within time and unique; of reproducing, again and again, the moment, instant by instant, in its fluid mutability – that instant over which they find themselves able to gain mastery by imprinting it on moving image. Some of the pleasure in hearing a work comes from having a sustained mood that continually changes. The common word for the mind’s dimension is time.
Artists participating in ICE WIND EXHALE are interdisciplinary artist Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki, sound artist, writer and DJ Flora Yin-Wong and music composer/producer and sound designer Ana Quiroga. They will present an evening of performances featuring new sounds and improvisation, along with moving images and an experimental film curated by Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki.
Immersive sound offers space itself as a new instrument to play with – for musicians and sound artists; this opens the door to completely different approaches to composition and improvisation; it is an additional instrument to play with. Says sound designer Christian Duka and the founder of AMOENUS, the art organisation that facilitates, educates, curates and promotes immersive art centred around 3D sound that will power the sound system for ICE WIND EXHALE.
