Will you become an augmented being? This and other questions related to the humankind’s future in this plain digital revolution are the conceptual basis of the new exhibition by media artist Solimán López, where he explores the limits between the homo sapiens as we know it now and an enhanced version of it.
Skinning is being shown at the CEART of Fuenlabrada (Madrid), consisting of five new creations based on interactive pieces that react to the audience’s presence, becoming a central part of the show. Skinning presents a more formalist and figurative aesthetic in the artist’s path. Solimán López is a new media artist whose work revolves around applying and analysing technology from a conceptual and technical point of view, creating digital art, performances, and interactive and multimedia pieces while investigating the social changes obtained by the new technological revolution paradigm and the new language proposed by the digital debate itself.
With this show, Solimán López fills a new step in his research around the new technologies and their psychological, social, economic and artistic consequences and derivations. The audience can interact with The Pole, a reactive visual of 6 meters longer that recognises the position and display different human textures over an athletic 3-dimensional pole.
With Skin Path, we can observe a video installation with 11 little screens where a camera travels around and in a limitless looping over an athletics pitch made of digital skin. The Runner is a custom and interactive software showing the movement of a 3-dimensional character that will run for one year. In a database, all the data generated will be recorded. Calories, distance, bytes, hours of running. In Aposurfaces, people can interact with a surface that changes its final skin when we are in front of it, emerging some lost landscape made of artificial skin. Finally, in Surface Machine, the audience can find an interactive surface that captures their image and puts it inside an artificial and geometric skin, blocking the threshold between the real and virtual images.
Skinning runs until March 24, 2019.
