Heroines of Sound Festival, Radialsystem Berlin, 6 — 9 July 2023

Since 2014, Heroines of Sound has been committed to its initial mission of supporting women artists’ presence in the music and art scene. The current edition is dedicated to the spectra of microtonality and is also special because the festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary. It showcases over 60 acts from 17 countries of origin. Among genre-spanning concerts and performances by the likes of Elisabeth Schimana, Pascale Criton, Ale Hop, Electric Indigo, Merche Blasco, Stefanie Egedy, Beatriz Ferreyra and many others, the programme offers a sound art exhibition, workshops, and discursive panels. (LA)HORDE, Julia Stoschek Foundation Berlin, until 30 July 2023

The multidisciplinary collective LA(HORDE) presents its first institutional solo exhibition. The visitors can view a selection of video installations based on the collective’s choreographic practice rooted in ritual, classical dance, and subcultures. LA(HORDE) have made a name for themselves by blending traditional and modern, digital and analogue, and visual art forms and performance. If you are intrigued by the term “post-internet dance” used to characterise their practice, then be sure to stop by the Julia Stoschek Foundation while in Berlin. More info.




GAME SOCIETY, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, until 10 September 2023

The exhibition explores the relationship between video games and art and visual culture and looks at the gamification of our society accelerated by the pandemic. It features 9 video games (all are available for play) and more than 30 artworks by contemporary artists such as Cory Arcangel, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, Lawrence Lek, and many more. Shu Lea Cheang, UKI Kranzler Eck, Berlin, 21 — 22 July 2023

Shu Lea Cheang is a multimedia artist, filmmaker, and pioneer of internet-based art. She is also known as the creator of the “sci-fi” genre of new queer cinema, within which her films FRESH KILL (1994), IKU (2000) and FLUIDø (2017) are prominent representatives. Since 2009, the artist’s practice has evolved around the themes of viral love, biohacking, queer and anti-colonial imagination. To celebrate the Berlin premiere of Shu Lea Cheang’s latest film UKI LAS Art Foundation presents a two-day program of screenings and events that expands the movie’s cinematic world. More info.




BONE X IKLECTIK, Barcelona, 13 — 22 July 2023

Experimental art and music venue IKLECTIK has teamed up with the EMPTY6PACK cassette label and The Good Good cultural platform to host their first event outside the UK. With a lineup showcasing over 30 avant-garde electronic artists from London and Barcelona, the festival aims to build a bridge between the two cities’ creative communities and music scenes. The program is focused on all its varieties of experimental electronic and electro-acoustic music, celebrating curiosity, discovery and limitless forms of artistic expression. More info.
