Black Quantum Futurism: Temporal Deprogramming, ICA London, 13 – 25 August 2019

Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artists Black Quantum Futurism (BQF) present a new installation and live programme of music, performance, spoken word, talks and workshops. Black Quantum Futurism’s practise is centred on a radical artistic methodology inspired by Afrofuturism, Afrodiasporan traditions of consciousness, and quantum physics. Taking place over two weeks in the ICA’s Lower Gallery, Temporal Deprogramming features recent BQF works, including zines, video works, a listening station and a large-scale Black Quantum Futurism ‘event map’, which visualises BQF’s ‘intersectional time orientation’. The summer Tarkovsky retrospective is a tradition that has grown dear for 30 years now. In August, they are showing the seven feature films and one mid-length graduation film by Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky (1932–1986), whose monumental oeuvre exudes a lasting fascination. More info.

Mary Corse: A Survey in Light, LACMA California until 11 Nov 2019

Mary Corse’s first solo museum survey is a long-overdue examination of this singular artist’s career. Initially trained as an abstract painter, Corse emerged in the mid-1960s as one of the few women associated with the West Coast Light and Space movement. She shared with her contemporaries a deep fascination with perception and with the possibility that light itself could serve as both subject and material of art. More info.
