Open Call: BEYOND MATTER Residency at Tallinn Art Hall, Tirana Art Lab and ZKM

Text by CLOT Magazine

BEYOND MATTER is an international, interdisciplinary project on the revival of past landmark exhibitions, the documentation of current exhibitions and the dissemination of documentation along with actual artworks – both materially and immaterially present – in innovative ways. Tallinn Art Hall, Tirana Art Lab – Center for Contemporary Art and ZKM | Center for Art and Media are jointly calling for European art practitioners and theoreticians to apply for one of three production residencies to develop an artistic production or theoretical concept that takes as a starting point the core questions of Beyond Matter project.

How can artistic practices using virtual reality contribute to current political and social discourses? How can virtual reality serve as a medical basis for overcoming physicality and temporality? What can VR stand for? Are some of the questions that these residencies aim to seed light on.

Artists and theoreticians working in the field of contemporary art from the EU and Associated Countries are encouraged to apply. These residencies provide the opportunity to live and work in Karlsruhe, Tallinn or Tirana so project proposals developed in relation and conversation with the local realities of each location will be prioritised.

Applications should be submitted in English by April 30, 2020.
