Event: Sonic Cellumonials, an online cellular ceremony for you & your microbes

Text by CLOT Magazine

Artist duo Baum & Leahy have co-created together with sound artist Sofie Birch, artist and designer Greg Orrom Swan and scientific advisors Oluf Borbye Pederen and Anders Okholm Sonic Cellumonials, an audio-visual experience combining ambient soundscapes, guided visual journeys, animations and tactile interactions.

In the midst of processing a pandemic, how do we relate to ourselves as hosting universes of constantly evolving microbial protopias? In Sonic Cellumonials, the viewer is invited into a world of spatial, animated landscapes composed of digitally textured layers and microbiophilic imagery. Rooted in the ceremonial experience, the encounter invites an expansive journey through the body’s cellular landscapes. According to the artists, Sonic Cellumonials explore how we can collectively reimagine and heal our personal and planetary bodies.

In a meditative, physical-digital ceremony experienced from home, you are invited to delve into your internal microcosm to explore the transformative potential of understanding the body as an ecosystem of constant lifecycles. Following the ceremony, participants will be invited to continue meditating and collectively sharing their experience through the live chat.

Sonic Cellumonials will be digitally premiered on April 23  at 7:30 pm CET as part of CPH:DOX film festival and streamed online until May 2.
