The Future Starts Here, Victoria and Albert Museum London, 12 May-4 November 2018

The new major exhibition coming to the V&A Museum (London) this spring, 2018. The Future Starts Here explores ground-breaking technologies and designs currently in development in studios and laboratories and brings to the general audience more than 100 objects and products that have been underground for a while, together with the work of artists and designers who have been pioneering speculative scenarios. Growing Cultures: An Introduction to BioMaterials, Design Museum London, 5 May 2018

Fungi, composites of food waste and spun materials drawn from algae are just some of the leading innovations being developed by designers, makers and scientists in this area. This half-day workshop will introduce the world of Biomaterials, through handling sessions, presentations and group discussion. Participants will cover a range of current research and innovative projects spanning emergent material makers to established industrial initiative. More info.


Mira Digital Arts Festival, Funkhaus Berlin, 5 May 2018

MIRA, the digital Arts festival focused on the intersection between electronic music and live visuals from Barcelona, is having its second edition in Berlin. The line-up includes Yves Tumor, Lorenzo Senni, Aisha Devi, Laurel Halo, forest words, Vladimir Ivkovic, and Aeomac performing a 4D sound show and a selection of talks moderated by creative director and curator Estela Oliva. Waves, Memo Akten

Voices of Sónar+D for ME by Meliá, ME Hotel London, 10 May 2018

Are artists the new interpreters of innovation? With this question as a starting point will take place Voices of Sónar+D for ME by Meliá, An event curated by Sónar+D focusing on the role of artists in innovation processes and how creativity has become a major driving force of the 21st century in broad economic and social sectors. The artist Memo Akten and the director of Somerset House Studios Marie McPartlin will join Sónar+D curator José Luis de Vicente to talk about how creativity and the growing collaboration between art, technology and science modify our present and are able to imagine new future realities. ARTISTES & ROBOTS, Grand Palais Galeries Nationales Paris, 5 April – 9 July 2018

This exhibition is an opportunity to experience works of art produced with the help of increasingly sophisticated robots.  Featuring works by artists like Nam June Paik, Iannis Xenakis, Ryoji Ikeda, Sommerer and Mignonneau, ORLAN, Stelarc, Memo Akten and Daft Punk, it offers a gateway to an immersive and interactive digital world. This augmented body sensory experience subverts our notions of space and time. In an ever more robotic society, these artists explore new technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, which is potentially revolutionising human lives and even the conditions in which artworks are produced, presented, disseminated, conserved and received. Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier, Design Museum London, 10 May – 7 October 2018

Conceived and co-curated with Monsieur Alaïa before his death in November 2017, the exhibition charts his incredible journey from sculptor to couturier, his nonconformist nature and his infectious energy for fashion, friendship and the female body. Rather than a retrospective, the show interlaces stories of his life and career alongside personally selected garments, ranging from the rare to the iconic and spanning the early 1980s to his most recent collection in 2017. Ø.17 at Corsica Studios London, 16th May

The party organised by legend producer Kode9 is becoming a reference for estranged London midweek nights.  Always a class line-up, it returns another month, this time with Visible Cloaks, Proc Fiskal, Flora Yin-Wong and installation by Mike Tyka. More info.
