MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins is celebrating their tenth year with Embracing Uncertainty: MA Art & Science 10 Year Symposium on Friday, June 17, at their King’s Cross in London headquarters.
Starting at 1 pm, Session 1: Looking Out – Beyond Human will delve into transformation, evolution and growth themes. As humans, how do we connect with other species and materials? A series of talks aimed to investigate the tangled web of interconnections that exist between micro and macro scales in the universe, from slime moulds and dancers to reclaimed waste, honey and sound, with each artist’s works portraying how to transform materials, evolve and grow communities through their dedication to their subject matter.
Session 2: Looking In – Embodiment, in turn, will explore experiences of body and mind through lived experience, the creative process and collaboration, from understanding complex conditions in anatomy through process and materials to experiencing the connections between mind, movement and music and asking how uncertainty co-exists with creativity and discovering how art can be used to describe the indescribable in a medical diagnosis? The session will culminate in a transdisciplinary live performance exploring the physicality of mark-making, movement, live music and digital interaction.
The symposium runs parallel to the annual graduation show—opening doors on June 16 after two years without end-of-year shows. Reflecting the creative energy and joy of being back together, this is the first time all disciplines will show at the same time and place. Work can be seen at Central Saint Martins Show: URL for those unable to join IRL.
